Depression, the cause and the cure
If you feel you are depressed, it is hard for you to function with high energy on daily bases and you might feel very disconnected and lonely.
Depression does not affect just one person; it can affect families and destroy lives. Even people, who seem to have it all, can suffer from depression, as the pressure to be perfect all of the time, makes them actually unhappy.
Depression can be reversed and feeling good about yourself can be restored

A bit of advice to you at this point is, please do not try to be perfect, because people who are trying to be perfect are the most stressed and unhappy.
The pressure of high expectations. Women, who are known for their beauty, feel like they have never a day off. And
this can trigger behaviour as it happened to Britney Spears – she shaved herself publicly and gained a lot of weight.
A lot of beautiful women spend the last years of their lives in solitude, like Elisabeth Taylor, Ava Gardner or Greta Garbo. They left the public attention, maybe to let go of the pressure of high expectations towards their looks by their fans.
Athletes feel the pressure to perform on peak level all of the time. It is an interesting fact that a lot of comedians are depressed. They put together a show, that they are happy and funny and they feel a huge pressure to be funny all of the time. And that actually is too much of pressure and makes them unhappy.
The pop singer Robbie Williams became publicly depressed after he got it all. He is a good example in a sad way, how a very successful person can still be deeply depressed.
The feeling that you are not lovable enough
The most common cause of depression is that a person does not feel lovable enough or does not feel enough just the way he is. People who do not feel lovable enough are often drawn to become famous, as they think this the cure to make them feel good about themselves.
In reality, it is quite the opposite, the more fame you gain, the more you feel pressured to function on a very high level and that pressure might cause even more depression.
The feeling “I am not lovable enough, but when I become famous, then everybody will love me” will evolve into feeling “I am not lovable enough, I am a fraud, my fans love me only for my voice or body or lifestyle or the person I perform at the stage”.
When a celebrity publicly demonstrates destructive behaviour, that makes things even worse. The press and yellow press are always alert to find celebrities in their most vulnerable moments and that becomes public shaming.
You are not doing what you love or following your heart´s desire
Studies have shown, that people who are not engaged in a field that is their calling, that is not something they love to do or do not follow their heart´s desire, may become depressed, apathetic or even sick.
In the therapy session, people acknowledge the things that they regret, they did not do and quite often the reason is that professionally they are not engaged in the field they love. Quite often the reason for depression and suffering is that on
daily basis a person has to perform tasks that do not inspire them nor are something that gives them the slightest satisfaction.
If you are depressed because you do not follow your heart’s desire, just remind yourself, that it is never too late to do something about it. Even if it is not possible professionally to do what you love, you can do it as a hobby. Do not live a life regretting that you did not do anything about it, better start doing something about it.
When you are doing something that you truly love, you will notice that your body heals, because a natural relaxation takes place, and that floods your body with happiness hormones. That in turn makes the relaxation and the recovery of the nervous system even more powerful.
Disconnection, lack of warm, humane, accepting and loving relationships
In the sense of technical solutions, we are more connected than ever in the history of mankind, but in reality, we experience more separation, solitude, superficial communication, lack of good, kind, supportive and understanding connection, which leads to sadness, loneliness and depression.
As human beings, we are naturally social beings. We are born with two primary forces, to find connection and avoid rejection. We need to feel that we belong, that we have good relationships with others, that we are valued and appreciated. The need to belong is imprinted in us as a means to survival and as means to continue as species.
As babies we have a great need for humane contact because as babies we need to be taken care of, we need food and protection as our lives depend on that.
Studies have shown that solitude and abandonment activate the same areas in the brain as physical pain. Shockingly studies have also shown that solitude can be more harmful to the body than excess weight or smoking. As the pain of social distancing is very similar to physical pain, it is no wonder that we suffer pandemic solitude and disconnection.
You might think that you are not affected by solitude and disconnection. Still, lack of social connection affects your children, parents, friends, colleagues and other people, that you care for. Solitude is a huge factor in suicide. It does not matter,
that we are very connected digitally, as we are more and more disconnected from things that truly matter to us.
